One of my favourite things in progressive rock is epic long songs. I think a song doesn't necessarily need a "temporal frame", it needs time to develop ideas and set the atmosphere. And what I like the most is getting lost in the meanders of the musical structure until the epic grand finale.
Here is a hand-picked selection of prog epics I love (from the 70's of course but not only). One rule : Only songs over 15 minutes ("The Black Chord" by Astra and "Salomon" by Arena last a bit less than 15 mn but they have to be included here, two of my favs!). Expect 32 songs for 9 hours of pure prog epicness, enjoy!
Unfortunately, I couldn't find the songs below on Spotify but they definitely are among my favourites!
- Marillion - Ocean Cloud
- Transatlantic - All Of The Above
- Transatlantic - Stranger in your Soul
- Spock's Beard - At The End Of The Day
- Hypnos 69 - Requiem
