Splendid! If the sound is equal to the look, you have a magnifical guitar.

Compared to the Rickenbaker's sounds I know, I think the Shergold is more versatile. Most of all, the neck humbucker gives a warm velvet sound I have never heard from a Rickenbaker.

I play it with round wound strings, and it sounds great. And, in french ( sorry <img src="http://www.spleenarcana.com/forums/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_cry.gif" title="" class="bb_smilies" /> ) because I miss two words to describe its sound: rien de métallique ni de sec dans le son, contrairement à ce que j'entends assez souvent d'une Rickenbaker.

The last point I love in my Shergold: the sustain. It seems as if she plays neverending notes.

Rutherford left his Rickenbaker guitars (single and double neck) behind when he got endorsed by Shergold. Those incredible instruments have a last advantage compared to all others: you can plug seven dfferent "modules", to change the sound, depending on various conditions you play (or record).

I strongly recomand you have a look at:

- the original website,
- the web page about the modules.

Very interesting!

5/ Shergold Modulator 4 (1980): The english Rickenbaker, probably more punchy than it. Amazing humbuckers providing an amazing sound, with controls (volume and tone) really efficient. I have chills everytime I play it or record it. I have been waiting 32 years to find it, and if I had to sell all I have, I would never accept to let her go. I discovered that an incredible guy is building new Shergold, based on original parts and diagrams from this factory, and with Norman Houlder's bless (one of the two Shergold co-founders). As a Genesis addict, I plan to order him the re-build of the famous double-neck Mod 12/4 made for Mike RUTHERFORD. But MY Modulator 4 is the best bass in the world, indeed

Hi Ykar!!

Great pic and greats axes!! I'm really curious about the Shergold. I didn't know which model it was even if I know it thanks to Rutherford. Is it really supposed to be a Rickenbacker kind of sound? It must sound huge!!

I can update this topic too with my latest guitar :

I awake this <strike>spleening</strike> sleeping topic with my rig:

From the left to the right:
1/ Fender Telecaster, made in Korea in 2009, but fine to play.
2/ Line6 Variax 600 (2008). Some people say that it isn't a guitar (suckers!). Plugged into a Pod XT Live, and direct in a mixer, it is the best set to play 25 guitars in dozens of amps, effects and cabs. A neck I love, no hiss in front of my electronical equipment, and sounds that are not really THE sounds of each guitar emulated, but very close to them, and very efficient in the middle of the general mix.
3/ The Stephenson I bought in 1978, a fine japanease copy of the famous Les Paul. Last year, I upgraded it: I changed the original humbuckers for a set I bought to Jon Langcaster. Great sound, clear and fresh like stratocaster single-coil can be, but with the output level of big humbuckers. Never heard sounds like those before.
4/ Höfner Violin Contemporary Series (2007): Build in China by Hofner. All parts are those that are used in Germany by the original factory, except the pots and switches plate control. Changing it by the one which is sold in Germany would cost about 160 €, to get exactly the same bass as the original one (except the fact that this new one as a semi-chamber body).
How do those guitars sound? They can be heard on my website (follow my profile). Every day, it is a pleasure to play them!

I use an Ibanez SAS36FM (which has humbuckers) for most of my solos and distorted sounds, and a Fender Strat'93 with single coil pickups for all clean sounds. Sorry, I don't have any pictures for now, maybe I'll put them online later. I also have an Ibanez electro-acoustic guitar (but I don't know which model it is) and a nameless nylon string guitar. Finally, I have an Epiphone Gibson Special VSII, which is the first guitar I owned. I don't play with it anymore, but I can't sell it for sentimental reasons.

But where's the exact border of switching to another tone (in fretless case)? <img src="http://www.spleenarcana.com/forums/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_biggrin.gif" title=":D" class="bb_smilies" /> For me, that all looks very confusing.

Well, it's not really about advantages or disadvantes you, it's just not the same sound. And fretless is a bit more difficult to play. But the sound is really unique, you can't really imitate this sound with something else. The Flower Kings bassist, Jonas Reingold uses a lot of fretless <img src="http://www.spleenarcana.com/forums/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" />

Wow! These are "great" <img src="http://www.spleenarcana.com/forums/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_biggrin.gif" title=":D" class="bb_smilies" /> I didn't know for Fame, thanks for sharing. And at the other side they are "cheap" <img src="http://www.spleenarcana.com/forums/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_biggrin.gif" title=":D" class="bb_smilies" /> But still, I would have to say "no" to many of my "vices" (CDs, vinyls, books, no Marlboros, no drinks, no chicks, haha) But, dammit! How beautiful they are, and what's more important... Their sound! *sighs*

You know about Mayones guitars? (http://www.mayones.com/) Also Polish brand (hm... Is this coincidence?) Daniel Gildenlow is endorsed by them, has its own Perfect Element series...

Do you know Fame guitars? It's a Polish brand sold by Musicstore. They have PRS-like model which seem really good, well if it's like my Fame bass guitar, it should be great!!

Haha, I am a hell envious on you because of this Custom 77 CG, it's awesome. And I could hear how it sounds on those vid you've posted, it really has some specific "beep"...

Well, a friend of mine sells Ibanez SZ320, it's almost new and relatively cheap (350 euros), and especially I like its design which is a bit different from other Ibanez models and has kinda PRS design-like <img src="http://www.spleenarcana.com/forums/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" /> And I dream of owning a PRS mode... But, just dreaming, haha <img src="http://www.spleenarcana.com/forums/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_biggrin.gif" title=":D" class="bb_smilies" />
